It has a grey non-marking rubber tyre with a fine ribbed tread on a black polypropylene centre running on a roller bearing, and a rigid zinc-plated pressed steel bracket with a 105 x 87mm top plate that bolts straight to the underside of your equipment. Each castor is rated to 80kg and stands 128mm tall. It suits office and school furniture, shop and stockroom trolleys, catering and cleaning trolleys and workbenches.

The grey rubber tyre is a non-marking compound, so it will not leave the dark scuffs that black rubber can, and it absorbs small bumps and runs quietly on hard floors. It copes with temperatures from -20°C to +80°C. Grey rubber is a lighter-duty wheel than the blue elastic rubber range, and is the economical choice where loads are moderate.

Roller bearing for easier rolling

The wheel runs on a roller bearing rather than a plain bore, so it takes less effort to start and keep moving under load, and it wears more evenly over time.

Fixed bracket for straight-line tracking

A fixed castor does not swivel, so it keeps a trolley running straight and stops the back end drifting. Fitting two fixed castors at one end and two swivel castors at the other gives a trolley that tracks straight but still steers easily. The 105 x 87mm plate has four 8mm holes on 80 x 60mm centres and suits M8 bolts.

Where it's used

Choosing the right option

Choose grey rubber, as here, for quiet running and floor protection at moderate loads; the blue elastic rubber range carries more weight at the same wheel size, and polyurethane suits heavier industrial use. Check you have a flat area at least 105 x 87mm under each corner for the plate. For a trolley, pair two of these fixed castors with two 100mm grey rubber swivel castors, which share the same 128mm height, so the trolley sits level. If it must stay put, add braked castors of the same 128mm height. For the load, add up the weight of the item and everything on it and divide by three rather than four, because on an uneven floor one castor is often lifted; if the answer is over 80kg, choose a larger wheel or the blue elastic rubber range.

Installation, use and care

Hold the plate flat against the base and fix it through all four holes with M8 bolts and nuts. Fixings are not included. Line both fixed castors up with the direction of travel so the trolley runs true. Check the fixings after the first few weeks, keep the wheel clear of threads and debris, and wipe clean with a damp cloth. Keep the rubber tyre away from oils and solvents, which can soften rubber.
