Turf Tyre 4 Ply Tubeless for Ride-On Mowers & Garden Tractors

If a tyre on your ride-on mower, garden tractor, lawn sweeper or turf trailer has split, gone bald or keeps losing air, this 4-ply tubeless turf tyre is a straight replacement. It comes in the six sizes that cover most small grounds-care machinery, from the 11x4.00-4 found on mower front wheels and barrows up to the 20x8.00-8 used on the rear of larger garden tractors. Every size has the same shallow turf-pattern tread, built for lawns, sports grass and estate grounds, where a deep agricultural lug would tear up the surface you are trying to look after. It is sold as a tyre only, so you refit it to your existing wheel.

Why it works

A turf tread that spreads the load

The tread is a series of continuous, gently waved bars running from shoulder to shoulder, separated by narrow grooves with small staggered slots. The wide, flat crown puts a broad footprint on the grass, so the machine's weight is spread rather than concentrated. In practice that means less rutting on soft ground, less scuffing when you turn, and fewer tyre marks on a striped finish. The slots give the bars enough edge to grip damp grass and gravel paths without the digging action of a bar-lug tractor tyre.

4-ply carcass on every size

All six sizes use a four-ply construction. That gives the sidewall enough stiffness to carry a seated operator, a collector full of wet clippings or a loaded tipping trailer without squirming. Load ratings run from 132kg to 345kg per tyre depending on size, so check the table below against your machine's own rating.

Tubeless for simpler upkeep

As a tubeless (TL) tyre it seals directly on the rim bead, so there is no inner tube to pinch during fitting or to go soft overnight. A small puncture can usually be plugged from outside, without removing the tyre.

These sizes are fitted to the front and rear wheels of ride-on lawn mowers and lawn tractors. They are also found on garden and estate tipping trailers, lawn sweepers and spreaders, compact utility carts, groundscare equipment on sports pitches and golf courses, and trolleys that run over mixed ground. Anywhere you need a wide, low-pressure tyre that is kind to grass, a turf pattern is the common choice.

Choosing the right size

Read the size moulded on the sidewall of your old tyre and choose the matching option. In a code such as 16x6.50-8, the first figure is the overall diameter, the second is the section width and the last is the rim diameter, all in inches. The rim figure must match your wheel exactly: a -6 tyre will not fit an 8-inch rim. Two sizes can share a rim but differ in height. The 16x6.50-8 and 18x6.50-8 both fit an 8-inch rim, but the 18-inch tyre raises the machine and changes the ground speed, so do not swap sizes on a drive axle without checking with the machine maker. Replace drive tyres in pairs where you can, because a new tyre beside a worn one has a different rolling circumference and can make the machine pull to one side. If the rim is pitted and no longer seals, fit a matching inner tube.

Installation, use and care

Deflate the old tyre completely and break both beads before levering it off the rim. Clean any rust or old rubber off the bead seat, lubricate the new tyre's beads with tyre soap, and seat it with a controlled burst of air, using a strap if needed. Inflate only to the pressure in your machine's handbook, and never beyond the figure moulded on the sidewall. Check pressures monthly, because a turf tyre that runs soft scrubs the grass and wears its shoulders.

Frequently asked questions

Does this come on a wheel?

No. This is the tyre only. It fits your existing rim, which the tyre is removed from and refitted to. The white wheels in our photos show the tyre fitted, as it looks in use, and are not included.

Which size fits my ride-on mower?

The code on your current tyre's sidewall decides it, not the mower brand. Many mowers use a smaller size on the front and a larger size on the rear, so check each axle separately.

Can I run it with an inner tube?

Yes. It is designed to run tubeless on a sound rim, but an inner tube of the same size can be fitted where the rim no longer holds a seal.

Is it suitable for road use?

No. It is an off-highway tyre for garden machinery, trailers and handling equipment, and is not road-legal for towing on public roads.
