If your trolley, cabinet or display unit needs to roll easily but also stay exactly where you park it, this braked castor does both. It is a 75mm twin wheel swivel castor with a total lock foot brake that holds both the wheels and the swivel head, a 60 x 60mm top plate, a zinc-plated pressed steel housing and two black polypropylene wheels. Each castor is rated to 90kg and stands 100mm tall. Shop fitters, furniture and cabinet makers and workshop users fit it wherever equipment has a flat base and must be held still while in use.
Why it works
Total lock brake – wheels and swivel held together
A standard wheel brake stops the wheel rolling but still lets the castor spin round. This castor's foot-operated brake locks the wheels and the swivel head at the same time, so the equipment stays put while you load it, work at it or leave it on display. Lift the pedal to release it. Because the brake sits on the side of the castor, you can reach it without bending down.
Two wheels instead of one
Each of the two 22mm-wide wheels turns independently as the castor swivels, which reduces scrubbing compared with a single wide wheel. The castor changes direction more easily and puts less wear on the floor. The overall width across both wheels is 51mm.
Top plate fixing
The square 60 x 60mm plate has four slotted 6mm holes set on 48mm and 37mm centres, so it lines up with more than one bolt pattern and suits M6 bolts or screws into a flat timber, board or steel base.

Where it's used
Mobile storage cabinets and pedestals, retail display units and shop fittings, light workshop and stock trolleys, and equipment stands that must stay still while in use. Best on smooth, hard indoor floors such as vinyl, tiles, sealed concrete and laminate.
Choosing the right option
Most equipment needs braked castors on only two corners, with plain swivel castors on the other two; the matching unbraked 75mm twin wheel top plate castor has the same plate and height, so a mixed set sits level. Check you have a flat area at least 60 x 60mm under each corner; for tube legs with threaded inserts a bolt hole or threaded stem castor is easier to fit. For the load, add up the weight of the item and its contents and divide by three rather than four, because on an uneven floor one castor is often off the ground; if the answer is over 90kg, choose a larger castor. Hard polypropylene wheels roll easily but are firmer and noisier than rubber, so choose rubber or polyurethane for quiet running or delicate floors. Note the 98mm swivel radius: allow that much clearance from walls and other castors.
Installation, use and care
Hold the plate flat against the base and fix it through all four slotted holes with M6 bolts and nuts, or suitable screws into solid timber. Fixings are not included. Fit the castor so the brake pedal faces outwards where you can reach it. Check the fixings after the first few weeks, keep the wheels and brake clear of threads and debris, and wipe them with a damp cloth.
