Why it works
Grey rubber tyres – quiet and floor-friendly
Each wheel has a grey rubber tyre on a rigid polypropylene centre. Rubber absorbs small bumps and grips the floor, so the castor runs more quietly and is kinder to vinyl, tiles, laminate and sealed wood than a hard plastic wheel. Grey rubber is less likely to leave dark scuff marks than black rubber.
Total lock brake – wheels and swivel held together
A standard wheel brake stops the wheel rolling but still lets the castor spin round. This castor's foot-operated brake locks the wheels and the swivel head at the same time, so equipment stays exactly where you park it while you load it, work at it or leave it on display. Press the grey pedal to lock and lift it to release.
Two wheels and a top plate
The two 24mm-wide wheels turn independently as the castor swivels, reducing scrubbing and making direction changes easier; overall width across both wheels is 52mm. The square 60 x 60mm plate has four slotted 6mm holes on 48mm and 37mm centres and suits M6 bolts or screws.

Where it's used
Mobile storage cabinets and pedestals, medical and laboratory equipment trolleys, retail display units, school and office furniture, AV and IT trolleys, and light workshop equipment. Best on smooth indoor floors such as vinyl, tiles, laminate, sealed wood and sealed concrete.
Choosing the right option
Choose rubber wheels, as here, when noise and floor protection matter; choose polypropylene wheels when you want the easiest rolling on hard floors and the lowest cost. Most equipment needs total lock castors on two corners and plain swivel castors on the other two, but equipment that must not move at all is best with braked castors on every corner. Check you have a flat area at least 60 x 60mm under each corner; for tube legs with threaded inserts a bolt hole castor is easier to fit. For the load, add up the weight of the item and its contents and divide by three rather than four, because on an uneven floor one castor is often lifted; if the answer is over 90kg, choose a larger castor. Allow 98mm of swivel clearance around each castor.
Installation, use and care
Hold the plate flat against the base and fix it through all four slotted holes with M6 bolts and nuts, or suitable screws into solid timber. Fixings are not included. Fit the castor so the pedal faces outwards where your foot can reach it. Check the fixings after the first few weeks, keep the wheels and brake clear of threads and debris, and wipe clean with a damp cloth. Keep rubber tyres away from oils and solvents, which can soften rubber.
Frequently asked questions
What does "total lock" mean?
The foot brake locks both the wheels and the swivel head, so the castor can neither roll nor spin round. Equipment stays put even when it is leaned on or worked at.
Will the wheels mark my floor?
Grey rubber tyres are chosen because they are less likely to leave dark marks than black rubber and run quietly on hard floors. As with any wheel, keep them clean to avoid transferring grit.
What is the load capacity?
Each castor is rated to 90kg. A set of four is rated to 270kg, because the load is calculated on three castors to allow for uneven floors.
What size bolts do I need?
The plate holes are 6mm, so use M6 bolts, or screws of a similar size into solid timber. Fixings are not supplied.
