For light furniture and equipment with a flat base, this compact 50mm twin wheel castor rolls quietly, turns easily and is kind to floors. It has two grey rubber wheels, a zinc-plated pressed steel housing and a 60 x 60mm top plate that screws or bolts straight to the underside of a cabinet, pedestal, trolley or stand. Each castor is rated to 60kg and stands just 72mm tall, keeping your equipment low and stable. Why it works

Grey rubber tyres – quiet and floor-friendly

Each wheel has a grey rubber tyre on a rigid centre. Rubber absorbs small bumps and grips the floor, so the castor runs more quietly and is kinder to vinyl, tiles, laminate and sealed wood than a hard plastic wheel. Grey rubber is less likely to leave dark scuff marks than black rubber.

Two small wheels instead of one

The two 18mm-wide wheels turn independently as the castor swivels, so it changes direction easily with less scrubbing than a single wide wheel. The overall width across both wheels is 39mm and the swivel radius is 58mm, so it needs little clearance under compact furniture.

Top plate fixing

The square 60 x 60mm plate has four slotted 6mm holes on 48mm and 37mm centres, so it lines up with more than one bolt pattern and suits M6 bolts, or screws into solid timber or board.

Choosing the right option

Check the fixing first: you need a flat area at least 60 x 60mm under each corner. If your equipment has tube legs with threaded inserts instead, the 50mm twin wheel bolt hole castor with the same wheels is easier to fit. Next, the wheel: grey rubber, as here, is the choice when quiet running and floor protection matter, while polypropylene wheels roll most easily on hard floors at a lower price. For the load, add up the weight of the item and everything in it and divide by three rather than four, because on an uneven floor one castor is often lifted; if the answer is over 60kg, step up to a 75mm castor. This castor has no brake, so where equipment must stay put, fit braked castors on at least two corners.

Installation, use and care

Hold the plate flat against the base and fix it through all four slotted holes with M6 bolts and nuts, or suitable screws into solid timber. Fixings are not included. Check they are tight after the first few weeks, keep the wheels clear of threads and debris, and wipe clean with a damp cloth. Keep rubber tyres away from oils and solvents, which can soften rubber.

What size bolts or screws do I need?
The plate holes are 6mm, so use M6 bolts, or screws of a similar size into solid timber. Fixings are not supplied.

What is the load capacity?
Each castor is rated to 60kg. A set of four is rated to 180kg, because the load is calculated on three castors to allow for uneven floors.

Will the wheels mark my floor?
Grey rubber tyres are less likely to leave dark marks than black rubber and run quietly on hard floors. Keep them clean to avoid transferring grit.

Does it have a brake?
No. This is a plain swivel castor. Use braked castors where equipment must be held in place.
