Why it works

Two wheels instead of one

Splitting the load across two narrow wheels means each wheel turns independently as the castor swivels. That reduces the scrubbing you get from a single wide wheel, so the castor changes direction more easily and puts less wear on the floor. The overall width across both wheels is 38mm, which keeps the castor stable without looking bulky.

Bolt hole fixing

The domed swivel head has one central M10 hole. A single bolt goes up through it into your equipment, so the castor sits directly under a leg with nothing sticking out sideways. It is the tidiest fixing where there is no room for a plate, such as square or round tube legs fitted with threaded inserts.

Polypropylene wheels, zinc-plated housing

Polypropylene is light, hard wearing and does not absorb water, which suits indoor floors that get mopped. The zinc plating protects the steel housing against corrosion in normal indoor conditions.

Choosing the right option

Check three things before you order. First, the fixing: this castor needs an M10 bolt or threaded insert. If your equipment has a flat base and no threaded fixing, a top plate castor is usually easier to fit. Second, the load: add up the weight of the item and everything it will carry, then divide by three rather than four, because on an uneven floor one castor is often lifted. If the answer is over 60kg, choose a larger castor. Third, the floor: hard polypropylene wheels roll easily but are firmer and noisier than rubber, so for quiet running or delicate floors choose a rubber or polyurethane wheel instead. This castor has no brake; where equipment must stay put, fit braked castors on at least two corners.

Installation, use and care

Fit an M10 bolt of the right length up through the swivel head into the leg or threaded insert, and tighten until the head sits flat and firm. The bolt is not included. Check the fixings after the first few weeks of use, keep the wheels free of threads and debris, and wipe them clean with a damp cloth. Avoid dragging the equipment sideways over steps or thresholds, as shock loads can damage the wheels.
