Why it works

A large 125mm wheel

The larger the wheel, the more easily it rolls over floor joints, thresholds, lift gaps and small debris, and the less effort it takes to push a loaded trolley. A 125mm wheel is noticeably easier to move than 75mm or 100mm castors on older or uneven floors.

Grey rubber tyre – quiet and floor-friendly

The 24mm-wide grey rubber tyre on a rigid polypropylene centre absorbs bumps and grips the floor, so the castor runs quietly and is kind to vinyl, tiles, laminate and sealed wood. Grey rubber is less likely to leave dark scuff marks than black rubber.

Bolt hole fixing for tube legs

The domed swivel head has a single central M10 hole. One bolt goes up through it into the leg or threaded insert, so the castor sits neatly under the leg with nothing sticking out. With a tubular expander it can also be fitted into hollow tube legs.

Best on indoor floors such as vinyl, tiles, laminate, sealed wood and sealed concrete, including older floors with joints and thresholds.

Choosing the right option

Check the fixing first: this castor needs an M10 bolt, an M10 threaded insert or a tubular expander in the leg; for a flat base, a top plate castor is easier to fit. Next, height: at 150mm, a 125mm castor raises equipment more than smaller sizes, so check the finished working height. For the load, add up the weight of the item and everything on it and divide by three rather than four, because on an uneven floor one castor is often lifted; if the answer is over 80kg, choose a heavier-duty castor. This castor has no brake, so where equipment must stay put, fit braked castors on at least two corners. Allow 98mm of swivel clearance around each castor.

Installation, use and care

Fit an M10 bolt of the right length up through the swivel head into the leg or threaded insert and tighten until the head sits flat and firm. Check the fixing after the first few weeks, keep the wheel clear of threads and debris, and wipe clean with a damp cloth. Keep the rubber tyre away from oils and solvents, which can soften rubber.
