Why it works
Total lock brake – wheel and swivel held together
A standard wheel brake stops the wheel rolling but still lets the castor spin round, so equipment can creep sideways when it is leaned on or worked at. This castor's foot-operated brake locks the wheel and the swivel head at the same time. Press the grey pedal to lock and lift it to release; you never need to bend down.
A larger 100mm grey rubber wheel
A bigger wheel rolls over floor joints, thresholds and small debris more easily and needs less effort to push when loaded. The 24mm-wide grey rubber tyre absorbs small bumps, runs quietly and is kind to vinyl, tiles, laminate and sealed wood, and is less likely to leave dark marks than black rubber.

The domed swivel head has a single central M10 hole. One bolt goes up through it into the leg or threaded insert, so the castor sits neatly under the leg with nothing sticking out. With a tubular expander, it can also be fitted into hollow tube legs.

Best on smooth indoor floors such as vinyl, tiles, laminate, sealed wood and sealed concrete.
Choosing the right option
Check the fixing first: this castor needs an M10 bolt or M10 threaded insert in the leg, or a tubular expander for hollow tube; for a flat base, a top plate castor is easier to fit. For brakes, most equipment has total lock castors on two corners and plain swivel castors on the other two; the matching unbraked 100mm bolt hole castor with a grey rubber wheel is the same 122mm height, so a mixed set sits level. For the load, add up the weight of the item and everything on it and divide by three rather than four, because on an uneven floor one castor is often lifted; if the answer is over 80kg, choose a heavier-duty castor. Installation, use and care
Fit an M10 bolt of the right length up through the swivel head into the leg or threaded insert and tighten until the head sits flat and firm. Turn the castor so the pedal points outwards where your foot can reach it. Check the fixing after the first few weeks, keep the wheel and brake clear of threads and debris, and wipe clean with a damp cloth. Keep the rubber tyre away from oils and solvents. Bring equipment to rest before applying the brake.
